What is Distance Learning?


The month of April is a fun time at Timothy Christian School. It is a chance to meet some new friends as we welcome students to Kindergarten Camp!

Kindergarten Camp is a readiness program for children who are turning 4 this year and will be starting Kindergarten in September.

The children come for 4 Thursday mornings in April – April 2, 9, 16 and 23, from 8:45 – 11:30am, and cost for the program is $75.

They participate in all kinds of activities. They listen to Bible stories, do arts and crafts, play games in the gym, sing songs, and much more. It is a wonderful time for children to experience kindergarten.

Kindergarten Camp is Coming Soon


This morning the school hosted a community breakfast as the entry event to our spring projects.

As a whole school we are considering the question: Who is my neighbour?

And so we gathered together as a community to enjoy a pancake breakfast.

As we ate and talked with the people around us we thought about a couple of questions.

Take a moment to read our questions and some of the responses.

- Who is my neighbour?

  - friends, family, relatives
  - people who are next to me
  - anyone that I come across and need help of any kind
  - everyone
  - my neighbour is a person who I come into contact with who God has a plan for
  - everyone, even people you don’t love

- What does it mean to be a good neighour?

  - it means that you’re good to a neighbour
  - by helping others
  - helping other all the time
  - include everyone
  - it means to take care of each other
  - to respect each other
  - to be with them if they might be lonely

- How can we be a good neighbour in our community?
  - by sharing everything we have and they need
  - by listening to others and sharing our thoughts
  - volunteer to help the elderly
  - make pancakes for others
  - go to the grocery store and get food for them
  - invite people to the family movie night
  - pray for people
  - say hello when you see people
  - snowplow their driveway

We are very thankful for all the people who are a part of our community and wondered who else should be a part of our community.

Over the next few months all the students will be spending time with others in our neighbourhood and try to build community with them. We look forward to meeting new friends, learning new stories, and expanding our community.

We pray that God will lead and guide us as we seek to make connections with our neighbours. Please follow our weekly blog posts to learn more about the projects and to consider with us the question: Who is my neighbour?

Community Breakfast


On this cold February day, students came to school wearing shorts and sandals, looking like they were ready for summer.

Once a month we have a Fab Friday, a day to dress up and have some fun together as a community. Today was called Summer Day and we all had a good time getting comfortable in our summer duds.

As we got comfortable on our towels we thought about how much sand there is in the world.

We learned that in one cup of sand there are 2 million grains of sand. In the Sahara desert there are 6 septillion grains of sand! (that is a 6 with 24 zeroes behind it)

In Psalm 139 it says, “_God, your thoughts about me are priceless. No one can possibly add them all up._  
_If I could count them, \*\*they would be more than the grains of sand_.” How amazing to realize that God thinks about us more than there are grains of sand in the world. That thought is mind boggling!

As you start to think summer thoughts and dream of spending time on a sandy beach, remember that God is thinking about you right now! He thinks about you more than you can imagine or even understand.

Summer Day was a great way to build community and build faith.


Summer Day!


The students in Grade 3-4 are doing a research project on an animal of their choice. As part of the project they have been given the task of sketching their animal.This process required looking closely at the details of a gridded photo and transferring to their gridded paper. Checking and rechecking, erasing and checking again was a difficult task that required patience and persistence.One student commented, _“I never thought I would get this sketch done. I can’t believe I finished it and that it’s so good._“Students listened to feedback and made multiple changes until they were satisfied with their work. The completed sketch shows a finished product that students are very proud of.

At Timothy Christian School, we think recess is very important. Getting fresh air, having space to run around in, and being able to be as loud as you want are just some of the benefits of recess.

More importantly, we think recess is a great way to build community.

Students can play with people in other classes. They can use their imaginations. They can be a blessing to someone.

Sadly, this doesn’t always happen. Sometimes community is broken during recess time. When community is broken we need to apologize and try to find a new way to be together. We are thankful that with Jesus there is always forgiveness. The very whiteness of the snow reminds us of grace and restoration. “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow.” Isaiah 1:18

We love snowy recesses. We love the chance to play and work together to build community!

Winter Recess!


We are in our second year of offering Extended Kindergarten, a program which gives families the option of choosing full time kindergarten for their children.

The Regular Kindergarten Program runs Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

The Extended Kindergarten Program runs Tuesday and Thursday.

The Extended Kindergarten Program is an educationally rich environment with lots of opportunities for exploration, discovery and play. The students enjoy music, story time, crafts, centers, gym class and more. Although new concepts are not taught during this time, lessons taught in the Regular Kindergarten Program are reinforced through this program.

There is a lot of joy in our Kindergarten classroom as the students explore and play and learn.

What do we need to do to have a heart that is spiritually fit?

1. We can love God with all our hearts
2. We can keep our hearts focused.
3. We can give from our heart.

While having a healthy heart physically is important, Jesus calls us to have a spiritually healthy heart as well. Through loving God, focusing our hearts, and giving to others, we can have a TOTALLY healthy heart!

We pray that God can help us to train our hearts to be more like his.

Having a Healthy Heart


Excitement was high on Friday afternoon as we began our new year of electives. Each year in January, the students in Grade 3-8 get to choose an elective that they want to participate in. This year they had 10 amazing choices: basketball, fitness, sewing, guitar, engines, woodworking, curling, ice cream, cooking and science & tech.

We run electives for 3 reasons.

**\#1 – we want our students to build knowledge.**

We want them to learn new things, connect to things they already know, expand on what they know and practice new skills.

Some things the students learned this week are:

- how to dribble and do a lay-up
- the difference between a 2-stroke and a 4-stroke engine
- how to strum the G chord
- why you need to sweep a rock in curling
- the ingredients from the first ice cream recipe

**\#2 – we want our students to build faith.**

We want them to grow in their relationship with Jesus by seeing how they can use new skills to serve others and by giving praise and worship to God for all the amazing things we can learn.

**\#3 – we want our students to build community.**

Electives gives our students a chance to build community with:

- other students, as they learn with students from different grades
- experts, as most of our electives are lead by amazing volunteers from the community
- home school students, as this year we invited home school families to participate with us and there are 20 home school students who we are learning and building community with.
