The Joy Project

By Heidi Blokland

“Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

The students in Grade 5-6 have been thinking about the connection between joy and thankfulness. They are challenging themselves and us to think about all the little things we are thankful for.

In the hall they put up paper and markers and students and teachers alike are adding to the list.

There are so many little things that we are thankful for.

Ann Voskamp writes:

“Joy, it’s always a function of gratitude — and gratitude is always a function of perspective.

If we are going to change our lives, what we’re going to have to change is the way we see.”

By taking the time to slow down and look for little things that we are thankful for we are increasing our joy – a joy rooted in thanks to our God and Saviour for all the big and little things that he has blessed us with.

What are the little things you are thankful for?
