Big and Little Buddies

By Heidi Blokland

Each student in Kindergarten is paired with a student in Grade 7-8...their Big Buddy!

Once a week the students meet with their buddies to do an activity. Sometimes they read together and sometimes they play catch. Recently they went snowshoeing together.

Big Buddies are important to our Kindergarten students because:

  • They have someone to look out for them in the hallways and at recess.

  • They can learn new skills with the help of their Big Buddies.

  • They build a relationship with someone older than them.

We like our Big Buddies because they are super nice.

I like snowshoeing with my Big Buddy.

I like my Big Buddy because he is funny.

I like my Big Buddy because he has a hockey shirt and I have the same one, just with a different number.

Little Buddies are important to our Grade 7-8 students because:

  • They learn leadership skills as they work with a younger student.

  • They build relationships with someone younger than them.

We like our Little Buddies because they are cute.

I like baking cookies and decorating with my Little Buddy.

My Little Buddy is enthusiastic about some things.

I like my Little Buddy because he is funny.
