Shine!

By Heidi Blokland

“Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your father in heaven.” Matt 5:16

Today we opened the school doors and welcomed an amazing group of eager and excited students to begin our 55th year! God is faithful and good. We gathered in the gym to start our year praising God together.

Our theme for the year is: Shine! Jesus is the light of the world and he calls us to shine his light and love to others. We prayed this morning that we will shine for him, that we will be a blessing to the community and that God’s name alone will be praised.

As the day progressed students had a chance to meet their new classmates and get settled with their teacher.

Students in Grade 7-8 held a morning meeting where they had a chance to share about themselves.

Students in Grade 5 met their new teacher, Madame Tripp, and learned about how they will be learning in French this year.

The students in Grade 3-4 got right to work, starting their new math books.

Students in Grade 1-2 were excited to play a Paw Patrol memory game.

And in Kindergarten, the students heard a Bible story about creation and then worked on colouring a picture.

It was a great day – a day of learning and sharing together. God is good and we pray that his light and love will fill our school this year and that it will shine out of us every day.

Our chapel this morning ended with everyone standing in a giant circle holding a candle.

As we passed the light around we sang:

This little light of mine

I’m gonna let it shine

Let it shine

Let it shine!
