Seeing Jesus - Tabernacle Celebration of Learning

By Heidi Blokland

Tabernacle Project + Jesus = Wow!!

Recently our whole school was joined together in an incredible project. It involved a lot of hard work and a lot of prayer. Our eyes were on the Tabernacle in the Old Testament and we wanted to know, “Where do you see Jesus in the Tabernacle?” The answer – everywhere! This project became the focus of our Celebration of Learning and each student was involved in learning some aspect of the Tabernacle.

Students in Kindergarten learned about sheep and lambs.

They considered how Jesus is the good shepherd, and how he is also the lamb of God. They thought about how they can be like a shepherd and like a lamb. They learned the story about the Good shepherd and how Jesus will never give up on us – he will always come and look for us.

In Grade 1 and 2, the students thought about water. They focused on many different stories in the Bible and how water is used as a symbol and what it teaches us about Jesus. They did lego builds about the Bible stories and created a lapbook to help them explain what they had learned. And then the students all brought some water to school to fill the washbasin in the Tabernacle.

In Grade 3, 4 and 5 the students learned about bread. They learned how bread is a symbol for salvation and community and the Word of God. They read Bible stories about bread and thought about how Jesus used bread to show his power. And then they made bread, bread that would be the showbread in the Tabernacle.

The students in Grade 7 and 8 learned a lot about the tabernacle. They focused on the different elements in the tabernacle and how everything points to Jesus. Take a moment to go for a walk through the Tabernacle.

During our Tabernacle Celebration of Learning people had a chance to learn from the student experts. When the trumpets sounded everyone made their way into the Tabernacle and together, as a community, we joined in worship to our Saviour Jesus, the lamb of God.

And we asked people to consider, where did you see Jesus?

Here are some of the responses:

  • When you experience the Tabernacle you see Jesus.
  • I see Jesus in the children’s music.
  • I see Jesus when the students show their love for Him.
  • I saw Jesus in the work and smiles of the students and staff of TCS. They shared their light.
  • I see Jesus in the veil torn in two.
  • Jesus is the new way. The old is gone. The new has come. Jesus has sacrificed everything for us, a sinful people.
  • The candlestick signifies Jesus being our light.
  • I see Jesus everywhere!

We give praise to God, that his glory has been revealed, that the curtain has been torn and that we can come into the Holy of Holies to worship Jesus.
