TEACHER/PUPIL INTERACTION
The school is
still one of the few places where some rules of basic courtesy can be taught
and instilled. Underlying such rules is a basic commitment to working out the
love of the Lord in such a way that there is mutual respect and courtesy.
This, of course, applies to teachers as well as pupils. This translates into
some specifics:
A. We use
appropriate forms of address and greeting.
B. Pupils are
taught to display a sense of reverence during prayer, Bible reading,
chapel,
etc.
C. Pupils are
taught to respect rights and property of others.
D. Students can
be quick to ridicule their peers. A good deal of effort may need to be
expended to deal with such matters if and when they occur in classroom
settings. Some pupils are picked on and/or ostracized. We need to make extra
effort to try and deal with these issues as soon as they appear.
E. Gossip must
be counter-acted at all times.
ATTENDANCE
All students
are expected to attend classes regularly and arrive at school on time.
Absences or lateness must be explained by note or phone. If your child is
absent, or will be late, please inform the school by phone, email or a
sibling. Absences unaccounted for will result in a phone call home.
RECESS AND LUNCH
Pupils are
expected to be outside for recess; they must have a note from home if they
need to stay in. Teachers are individually responsible for pupils kept in.
Washrooms may be used at both the beginning and the end of recess breaks.
Teachers share the task of monitoring the washrooms.
At lunch,
pupils all stay in for 15 minutes minimum.
Students bring a lunch from home. Each teacher is responsible for his/her own
class during this period. All students should be outside 20 minutes after the
beginning of lunch hour.
BAD WEATHER
During bad
weather the duty teacher or principal will ring the bell three times to signal
inside recess. The senior and junior classes will rotate the use of the gym
during rainy noon hours.
STAYING IN SCHOOL
Students must
bring a signed note from home if they need to stay indoors during the day.
The note will be in effect for that day only unless clearly indicated
otherwise.
OFF SCHEDULE HOLIDAYS
It happens that
parents wish to take their child out of school on days other than regular
holidays. The school does not encourage this, since we wish to meet
guidelines regarding days of instruction. If parents decide that it is
necessary to do this, they take upon themselves the responsibility to see to
it that the pupils have adequate work along with them so that they will not
fall behind in the core, skill development subjects. Please don’t ask the
teacher to design his/her lessons in advance to accommodate your vacationing
child.
