ACADEMIC STANDARDS & SCHOOL STANDARD TESTING
To ensure a high standard of education all subjects receive the time allotments recommended by the Ontario Ministry of Education, and its curriculum requirements are amply met. Even though English is the main language of instruction at Timothy Christian School, the school amply meets the Ministry of Education requirements for French as a second language. The school is regularly inspected by the Ontario Alliance of Christian Schools, and, upon request, by the Ministry of Education of Ontario. Regular visits to the classrooms are also made by the local Educational Committee made up of parents.
Students in grades 3-8 are
tested annually, using the Canadian Tests of Basic Skills (CTBS). This
comprehensive testing provides the staff with a valuable tool to assess
individual, class and full program progress.
Graduates of the school have
consistently done well academically at the local public High Schools, and at
Redeemer Christian High School in Ottawa. Many of the graduates of Timothy
Christian School have pursued and are pursuing further education at colleges
and universities.
HOMEWORK
Home study
plays a vital role in the attainment of good progress. It is necessary to
learn how to work and study effectively. Each student must learn to work by
himself. With effective home study, she can learn to solve problems
independently, to review, to summarize and to research. A student can't simply
come to class with homework unfinished, claiming, “I didn't get it.” There
must be a note from home. There are ebbs and flows in the homework cycle but
general expectations, by grade, follows:
Gr. 8 - 70 min/day
Gr. 7 - 60
Gr. 6 - 50
Gr. 5 - 40
Gr. 4 - 30
Gr. 3 - 20
